Second, “but China” can’t be answer to every safety concern. That logic justifies no safety measures ever. If China builds dangerous AI and we do too, everyone loses.

Third, the goal isn’t “win AI race”—it’s “develop beneficial AI.” Reckless deployment doesn’t serve that goal.

Fourth, Western advantage is trust and institutions. Safe, trustworthy AI could be competitive advantage, not disadvantage.

Objection 3: “Companies will jurisdiction shop!”
